The 2015 Melbourne cup turned out to be a thrilling affair as a plethora of horses battled it out up the straight to be crowned the 2015 champion, in a close finish it was a 100-1 rank outsider Prince Of Penzance ridden by Michelle Payne who took the honours holding off a spirited late run from Max Dynamite ridden by legendary European jockey Frankie Detorri with Criterion battling on to take third place ridden by Michael Walker.
Chris Froome reigned supreme once again winning the 2015 Tour De France in superb fashion but a lot of the praise has to go to his team mates at Team Sky for a superb effort throughout the 21 stage event which saw Froome come under many attacks from the likes of Quintana, Valverde, Nibali and Contador but each time he was helped by his team mates at Sky to claw back any attack made by the top contenders for the overall classification. While Froome doesn’t have the blistering breakaway speed on the mountains as some of his rivals his tenacity to claw back riders who attack is clear for all to see and never panicking Chris and Team Sky pace the chase perfectly not to upset their own rhythm and in most cases the attacks from the main men in the race were all short lived.
Although Froome held the yellow jersey for most of the tour the challenge for the overall classification would always come down to stages 18, 19, and 20 up in the Alps on three gruelling stages with mountain top finishes. Team Sky and Froome would know that this is where he would be most vulnerable to the likes of Quintana and the real mountain specialists but try as they might they could not shake team Sky who’s organisation and discipline countered each and every attack and Froome was supported and paced right up to the last by each and every man in his team until they could give no more where then it was up to Chris to dog it out to the finish.
Zach Johnson claimed victory at the 144th Open following a thrilling three-way play-off at St Andrews on Monday.
The 39-year-old American added to the Masters title he won eight years ago after winning a four-hole play-off with a par at the 18th after birdieing the first and second holes to defeat Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman.
Johnson had set the clubhouse target on 15 under after a closing 66 that was matched 40 minutes later by Leishman, whose total of 130 for the third and fourth rounds – he carded a flawless 64 on Sunday – equalled the lowest 36-hole total in major history.

The 2015 Tour De France has quickly come upon its first rest day after Stage 9 and in just over a week we have seen plenty of ups and downs on what was supposed to be an easy opening stint but due to bad weather and some serious crashes a few of the favourite riders for the overall title have given up more time on the first stages than they would have hoped for.
Leading the way is the 2013 overall winner Chris Froome who has managed to stay out of trouble which he can thank his organised team mates for as Team Sky have yet to put a foot wrong in this year’s tour guiding and guarding Froome at the front of the peloton missing any trouble. Froome didn’t have the best of starts on the solo time trial giving up fifty seconds to the stage winner Rohan Dennis but Chris would be more interested in his serious challengers and where they finished in the pecking order. His ride was solid and only Tejay Van Garderen of BMC Racing went quicker out of the big names that will inevitably contest the overall crown come the final stages but the mere eight seconds lost was not a bad result for Froome. Team Sky have placed Froome in the best position on every stage to date and Froome has done the rest when needed when his team mates had done what they could.
Ladbrokes Australia keep pushing the boundaries regarding online betting and mobile betting in an attempt to become one of Australia’s best betting sites and Ladbrokes have come up with another excellent feature to stand out from the crowd with their QuickCall feature.
Unlike other countries Australia has rules on how punters can place bets on sporting events that have already started. In the betting world this is called ‘In Play Betting’. It is a mandatory requirement that all Australian betting sites only take bets over the phone on events that have already commenced making things tricky and less appealing for punters to have a flutter on these markets once they get underway but Ladbrokes have now come up with the easiest and quickest solution to combat this making it more appealing to the punter.
With the 2015 State Of Origin just around the corner both The Blues of New South Wales and The Maroons of Queensland will have something to prove during this year’s series and both sets of fans will be eagerly awaiting the first game to get underway tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
Queensland had dominated the three game series in recent years winning an unprecedented six shields in a row until last year when New South Wales under Laurie Daley pulled off somewhat of a shock winning the first two games stopping the rot and the Maroons winning streak that dated back to 2006.
Both the first two contests of the 2014 series were on a knife edge for the whole 80 minutes of play with The Blues edging both games 12-8 and 6-4 respectively but it was a different case in game three as Queensland came out and salvaged some pride and momentum for the 2015 series with a classy 32-8 victory.
